Here's the short story. I've neglected my health for nearly a decade. I'm using this Weblog to document my efforts toward better fitness. Here's the opening post, which pretty much explains it all. I've taken as my motto the words of Dr. George Sheehan. "First, be a good animal."

it's been creeping up, and i have been feeling some pressure the past few days, so i took 80mg of diovan today for the first time since july 2nd

i'll keep monitoring each day and see whether or not i need to continue with it

probably ought to get in to the doctor before long just on general principles too

wrapping up 2-week liver cleanse...haven't noticed any effects

no alcohol for nearly a month - the main thing i've noticed is a slight weight loss, but that may have more to do with the cleanses and eating habits going along with that

i'm going to let up for a week - then start focusing on diet and exercise again next week...i may do another cleanse somewhere down the line...probably won't bother with the liver cleanse again...i think the whole body cleanse was better for me

i've completed the first whole-body herbal cleanse...this morning i began a deep, liver-specific cleanse

no alcohol for at least another two weeks

i overate while in K3 - the smell of fresh-baked goods alone up there is enough to make me gain weight

my food routine now is a banana in the morning with coffee, the all-bran at lunch, a light supper and nothing after 8 pm

looking forward to finding out what this cleanse does

i've been doing a full body cleanse this past week, so i've been watching what i eat and not drinking alcohol

another week to go on that

i'd like to get down to 215 before thanksgiving, so i'll probably start counting points again - that seems to be the easiest route for me

hope to do some podcasting again on this subject before long as well

i'm on the fifth day of a cleansing program from renew life called "first cleanse"

no i'll effects so far - and it's been easier than i thought to avoid alcohol

this will last another 10 days

not sure if i'll do an advanced cleanse after that or not

gave blood on monday - for the first time ever i didn't experience any queasiness or fainting

haven't run for a couple weeks...and haven't been watching what i eat...maintaining weight though

back on the horse soon

several months hiatus...trying to be faithful with the record again

i'm at 227 pounds, not far from where i was back in may...

vitals have been really good lately, averaging 134/76, pulse 63 - they were 132/77 - 55 this morning

i haven't taken any prescription medicine since july 2nd...i'd been experiencing drops in blood pressure accompanied by palpatations...hard to say whether the little bit of weight i've lost has made a difference or whether i'm simply handling stress better or what

i decided to quit taking the meds and monitor vital signs every day...so here we are

also, i went running yesterday morning for the first time in a long time - i'd tried once last year and had severe back problems afterward so i was hesitant to start again...i am a bit sore this morning (shins and quads especially) but doing well otherwise...i hope to be able to run a couple miles two or three times a week to start and then increase from there

iced my back some and soaked my feet in ice water last evening as a preventative measure...also, i'm taking glucosamine and a baby aspirin each morning - took an extra dose of the glucosamine and a 325 aspirin in addition last night

this morning i had my typical breakfast of all bran (with blueberries this time) and a banana...plus a cup of coffee with splenda - i'm going to do my best to record what i eat from here on since that's a big predictor of weight loss

perhaps i'll do a podcast again before long here...i'm very hopeful that i'll be able to continue running, stick to a sensible diet and get healthy again

a few words about this point business

i'm allowed 28 points per day - once i'm under 225 pounds, that goes to 26 per day

i'm also allowed an additional 35 points a week, to be used all at once or split up throughout the week

i also need to get 5 servings of fruits and vegetables per day, 2 servings of dairy and 6 glasses of water

doing well on the water...and getting one serving of dairy...at least one each of fruit and veggies...need to work on that one

it's interesting to me that i'm right back where i started - almost precisely the same weight, bp and pulse as last summer...this must be pretty much "stasis"

angry with myself that i gained back 18 pounds...hoping to stick with it this time

  • 1/2 cup of all bran with 1 cup of 1% (3 points)
  • coffee with splenda
noon:
  • 1/4 cup peas/carrots (cooked)
  • 1 slice whole grain bread w/land o' lakes lite

  • beef roast with tomatoes, onions, garlic and green beans (9 points)
still a little rusty on determining and remembering points, but confident i've eaten properly today
